"My experience as a mother of a patient in Taravista was unacceptable. My son was in unit south 2 and it was hard for him. My son would call me everyday while he was in the hospital and tell me how horrible the staff members there were. "My child was sent to Taravista. Their meds were changed, and after 5 days they were discharged. That's it. No real discharge or safety plan in place, except for providers that were so far away from where we live."

First, it isn't a place of healing as the restrictions on activity and exercise are oppressive. Despite its (for many) remote location, they only permit 1/2 hour visits, and only by one person per day, within very limited hours. "TaraVista is a step-up from prison. It is a horrible place that functions unethically and illegally. The upper management know this, and support this way of functioning. The direct-care staff are unable to think and speak for themselves (which they lament).
