Dear Rick, Thank you for your feed-back and review. I would like to apologize for the confusion regarding your exam. Dr. James founded our practice over 30 years ago and has a casual familiarity with many of our patients. He is the gentleman that performed your examination and declared you "AOK." Though I would have liked to have performed your examination, he assured me your recent work was doing well. About the recall exam. Once a patientâ€™s dental condition has been restored to good health, regular checks are made to prevent problems from developing unnoticed (like cavities, fractures, cracks or the integrity of the previous dental restorations). It is not uncommon for some of the existing restorations, especially older ones, to show signs of wear or infiltration and need to be repaired or replaced. The recall examination is an opportunity for the dentist to again thoroughly look at all the areas associated with the mouth and compare the findings to previous records. The goal is to find potential problems as early as possible. This exam is often combined with a maintenance cleaning and current radiographs. Many people ask why their hygienist doesn't simply notify the dentist if she finds something. The short answer is that your hygienist is not looking for the same things as the dentist. Hygienists are trained to clean your teeth (remove build-up and stains) and gums. Though many experienced hygienists can recognize failing restorations, decay and disease, they are not legally able to diagnose or treat these problems. Thanks again for your feedback. "I use to hate going to the dentist and it wasn't until my daughter told me about the "James Gang" that I changed my mind. I never worry about pain, roughness as they really care about my state of mind and go out of their way to make me feel comfortable. I recommend this dental office to everyone I know. Colleen"
