Mitral Valvular Disease

Mitral valve diseases are characterized by damage to the valve between the heart's left upper (left atrium) and left lower chambers (left ventricle). The damage may cause the valve to not open enough (mitral stenosis) or not close completely (mitral regurgitation). Both can impact the heart's ability to pump blood.
