Melanoma

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that begins in a cell called a melanocyte, which is located in the lower part of the epidermis (the top layer of the skin). These cells provide the pigment that gives skin its color. If skin is exposed continually to the sun or ultraviolet light these cells are more susceptible to becoming cancerous.
