<p><b>Dr. Roberto von Sohsten</b> was raised in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil and stayed near his Brazilian roots to attend and graduate from medical school at the Federal University of Bahia in 1990.<br></p><p>Dr. von Sohsten relocated to the United States in 1991 to complete an Internal Medicine internship and Residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, where he earned the position of Chief Resident in 1994. Dr. von Sohsten completed fellowships in both Cardiology and Research in 1998. During his residency in Philadelphia, Dr. von Sohsten was admitted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honors Medical Society.</p><p>Dr. von Sohsten began his Cardiology practice in 1998 at the Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania and then returned to Brazil to practice and be closer to family. During his early career, he became closely involved with medical training, both in Philadelphia and Brazil, and has continued teaching in Florida. He is presently Section Chief for echocardiography teaching for the Cardiology training program at University of Miami (UM) – JFK Medical Center.</p><p>He has published in peer-reviewed Cardiology journals and has presented at both national and international conferences.</p><p>Dr. von Sohsten has worked at MSPB since 2001 and has held numerous leadership positions with MSPB and area hospitals during his tenure in Palm Beach County.</p><p>He speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese and is accepting new patients.</p>... Ischemic heart disease occurs when the heart does not receive enough blood flow to function normally. The most common cause of ischemic heart disease is hardening, narrowing or clogging of the coronary arteries (arteries that feed the heart muscle).
