Orthopedic SurgeryAdult Reconstructive Orthopedic Surgery

Welcome to the Orthopaedic Computer Surgery Institute. William T. Long M.D., founder of Ortho CSI is a national leader in the use of computers and robots for hip and knee replacement surgery. The mission of the Orthopaedic Computer Surgery Institute is to improve joint replacement surgery so that one day all patients can enjoy unlimited activities on a joint replacement that will last a lifetime. Dr. Long and the operating room team at Good Samaritan Hospital performed the first robot assisted partial knee replacement in Los Angeles in October 2008. Perhaps no surgeon has performed more complex and revision hip replacement operations with computer navigation than Dr. Long. The results of this experience convinced Dr. Long that joint replacement is safer and more precise using computer and robot technology in the operating room. Members of our healthcare team have worked together for over a decade. Our physicians have published research on medical treatment to prevent blood clots, rapid recovery surgery and the use of computers to improve joint replacement surgery. We have performed joint replacement surgery at no cost to patients in the United States and around the world. Our patients receive competent and compassionate care from a team of experts. Courteous office staff will help each patient navigate smoothly from initial office visit through the return for long term follow-up. The physicians of California Lung Associates are the triple-boarded medical specialists who provide comprehensive medical care before surgery, during the hospital stay and though the safe transition home. Dr. Julio Raya and Dr. Brian Chan are anesthesiologists who helped to develop the techniques that allow patients to sleep during surgery while breathing oxygen through a mask. Hip and knee replacement surgery is safer without routine use of an edotracheal tube, a respirator or inhaled anesthetic agents. After surgery continuous nerve infusion pumps block pain at the surgical site and this provides superior pain relief without the side effects of injected morphine. Improved anesthesia, minimally invasive surgery, and better pain management allow most patients to walk on the day of surgery. The rapid recovery program helps to avoid the complications caused by bed rest. Most patients return home after two nights. We appreciate all of the patients who trust Dr. William T. Long and Ortho CSI to care for their hip and knee replacement needs.

"My left hip was replaced by Dr. Long 5 years ago it was fine at first then It started swelling and became painful. I’ve a knot of scar tissue once it healed I have had bursitis in my hip also. I went back once and was treated by a doctor assistant who was rude I waited over 40 minutes for treatment."

"I am an Ivy League professor, journalist, author, and global disability activist who has written for the New York Times, NPR, Huffington Post, Al Jazeera, etc. and traveled to 60 countries (having had medical treatment in many of the countries in which I've lived). I can say without a doubt that Dr. Long is the worst medical provider I've seen in the whole world. He did not even bother to read my medical records and reports, nor would he give me any medical advice or care. His unprofessionalism was appalling -- he is filled with rage, hostility, and aggression and I was scared to be alone in the room with him. He also used ableist language that was deeply offensive and politically incorrect. When I mentioned my surgeon from Yale (from when I was on the faculty at Yale), he changed his tone and demeanor because he realized I perhaps was more privileged and powerful than I appeared. But then his narcissism got the better of him and he had to conquer his insecurity / inferiority by treating ...
me with even more dismissiveness and hostility. A one star review reads: "Worst experience with a Dr. I've ever had. Wouldn't even look at MRI disks, got mad when I asked questions, and was rude when talking to myself. Also, he was very awkward and made the whole experience quite unpleasant." This was exactly my experience -- he wouldn't read my records, got irate when I asked simple questions, and was extremely rude and hostile. I believe that Dr. Long is a sociopath -- he seemingly lacks all human empathy, compassion, and humanity. His staff are clearly afraid of him. When I asked to speak with him or his assistant after my appointment to ask why he didn't even consult my records (from top surgeons in the nation btw), the staff claimed not to be able to find him or his assistant. The staff were not even able to make eye contact with me -- I think this is not their first time in the rodeo -- they must get many complaints from patients and I assume abusive treatment from him (if he treats patients as he treated me, I can't even imagine how he treats his staff). A Los Angeles Times investigative report even references his unethical behavior and lack of a moral compass: "Dr. William T. Long, the only other full-time orthopedic surgeon, recently resigned after being threatened with dismissal for allegedly falsifying his time cards and referring insured King/Drew patients to his private practice at Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood. Auditors found him performing surgeries and seeing private patients at Centinela on at least five Fridays this year when his time card indicated he was at King/Drew." Shocked that his tone was that of an inquisitor / interrogator instead of a care provider, I surmised that he likely had a lot of experience in courtrooms with lawyers. So I started doing research into his malpractice / lawsuit history -- and may write an article about how someone with his unprofessionalism and history is still being allowed to practice medicine in California. Do not believe anything but the 1 star reviews on the internet -- he is an incompetent and insecure doctor and a likely sociopath. I am sharing this so no one experiences what I did (and other patients according to their similar reviews) -- really, protect yourself and seek care elsewhere. Dr. Long should not be allowed to practice medicine (or anything else for that matter). I also think there may also be some illegal activity occurring in his office, as some older ladies in the waiting room said they had brought their friend to be seen -- they said to the staff: "Can't you just fit her in?" The front desk person said (in a quiet voice): "We used to be able to do that, but we're not allowed to anymore." I wonder if they're under investigation (and thus having to be careful while being "watched"), if he gives money to people who bring their friends (more friends = more surgeries = more money), or he's selling prescriptions. It was all so very strange, "

Data Transparency and Trust: Understanding WebMD Doctor Listings and Reviews

We know that finding the right doctor or provider is important to your health. That’s why we want to ensure you have confidence in the provider profiles and listings you see on WebMD Care. Our provider data is sourced from the physicians themselves as well as publicly available databases. Any doctor or provider who claims their profile by verifying themselves can update their information and provide additional data on their specialties, education, accepted insurances, conditions they treat, and procedures they perform.

All the physician and provider reviews on WebMD Care are provided by users just like you. Knowing these reviews provide insight into how other patients feel about a doctor, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Providers are not able to remove or modify reviews on their own. Reviews can only be removed after an internal review by our customer service team.

We value your input and encourage you to reach out to our support team if you encounter any issues.
