Why I Became a Physician
I became a physician because I was deeply interested in science, and I wanted to be of service in my community. I originally chose internal medicine as my specialty. An internist, to me, was the physician who was most responsible for all aspects of care for the whole person. Later in my career, I became interested in addiction medicine/chemical dependency treatment. It is very gratifying to help patients with the devastating and potentially fatal diseases of alcohol and drug dependence to regain their physical, mental, and spiritual health, in order to live in a satisfying and healthy way.
What I Enjoy About Kaiser Permanente
Kaiser Permanente has excellent chemical dependency programs. Our chemical dependency departments receive outstanding support from our colleagues and fellow employees. As a Kaiser Permanente physician, I am able to utilize the full range of treatment options for my patients.
My Interests Outside Kaiser Permanente
I live in Marin County with my wife, who is a Kaiser Permanente ED nurse, and our 7-year-old son; most of my free time is devoted to my family. But since I have a substantial commute, I am never without an audio book in my car. Commuting to work at Kaiser Permanente has allowed me to catch up on reading for which I would otherwise not have time!
