Dr. Wajih Zaheer is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist at MOH’s facility at Yale-New Haven Shoreline Medical Center. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Zaheer decided to specialize in cancer care because he found it an exciting and challenging field. He enjoys the many innovations and the immediate availability he has at MOH to new treatments and a broad range of interventions.
Dr. Zaheer is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology and has received merit awards during fellowship from American Society Of Clinical Oncology and American Federation of Clinical research. He mentors, teaches, and trains fellows, residents, and Yale medical students. He serves on various committees at the hospitals. "But," he says, "I feel the most important contribution I make is to take good care of each individual patient in order to improve the outcome. I make it my mission to bring the latest in treatment to …the community and tailor that treatment to each patient’s medical condition."
While skilled in the treatment of all forms of cancer and blood diseases, Dr. Zaheer has a particular interest in the treatment of solid tumor malignancies, particularly breast, lung, and gastrointestinal cancers. He is also interested in hematologic malignancies, such as lymphoma, leukemia, and myeloproliferative disorders.
Dr. Zaheer finds it greatly rewarding to work with his colleagues at MOH. "It is a group of the best clinicians in this field," he says, "who work together in providing state-of-the-art treatment." From his patients, he has learned the importance of listening, and he takes great satisfaction in helping his patients and their families.
In his spare time he likes to read and write, and spend time with his family.
With his wife and three children, Dr. Zaheer is proud to call Connecticut home.
