Senan Abdul-Hamed, MD, is a board-certified general surgeon who is fellowship-trained in both plastic surgery and burn/wounds at MSU Health Care Surgery. Dr. Abdul-Hamed received his medical degree from University of Baghdad, Iraq. He completed a postdoctoral minimally invasive surgery research fellowship at John Hopkins University School of Medicine. He then began his general surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago/Metropolitan Group Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois, transferring to complete the general surgery residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Abdul-Hamed is fellowship-trained in burn and wounds from the Timothy J. Harner Regional Burn Center and fellowship-trained in plastic surgery from Wayne State University Detroit Medicine Center. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Abdul-Hamed serves as an assistant professor of surgery in the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, furthering his research interests in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Abdul-Hamed has contributed to scholarly publications regarding outcomes of microvascular bone flaps versus osteocutaneous flaps in the head and neck reconstruction, use of indocyanine green fluorescence as a noninvasive means to assess burn wound severity, dorsal preservation rhinoplasty, and laparoscopic total extraperitoneal repair of inguinal hernias. Dr. Abdul-Hamed holds professional memberships in Iraqi Medical Association, Doctors for Iraq, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society of Aesthetic Surgery, and the American Society of Migraine Surgery. Dr. Abdul-Hamed is a bilingual clinician fluent in both Arabic and English.
