Dr. Makela received her medical training at the University of New Mexico where she also completed her internship and residency. Prior to relocating in Long Beach, she practiced in Denver Colorado.
An obstetrician and gynecologist, she particularly enjoys obstetrics, menopause management, alternative therapies and adolescent gynecology. She likes treating every aspect of a woman's health; physical, mental, and social.
A warm and easy to talk to physician, she considers the doctor-patient relationship as the basis of a team effort in her delivery of care. She believes that one of the most important parts of her job is as a patient educator.
Dr. Makela has a grown son. Her interests outside of work include aerobics, weight training and scuba diving. She also enjoys gardening and relaxing with a good book.
