Sahana Rajasekhara, MD, FACP, FAAHPM, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida and an Associate Member in the Supportive Care Medicine Department, Moffitt Cancer Center. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of hospice and palliative medicine. Additionally, Dr. Rajasekhara is a Physician Nutrition Specialist.Dr. Rajasekhara has been an avid advocate of graduate medical education and has held various leadership positions, including Assistant Program Director, Geriatric medicine fellowship at Staten Island University Hospital and presently as a fellowship site director USF-Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship. She is actively involved in teaching and training medical students, residents, and fellows. She is a frequent speaker and advocates for patient and provider education in palliative care and symptom management. Dr. Rajasekhara has extensive experience in integrating safe prescribing practices for symptom management in cancer patients, the elderly, and the terminally ill.Dr. Rajasekhara's clinical interests include cancer cachexia and nutrition, therapy of cancer-related and cancer treatment-related pain and other symptoms, and palliative care education. She has an intense interest in integrating palliative care education and training of various oncologic fellows and programs. She has been a promoter of the advancement of the field of Palliative Medicine overall.
