Rodolfo J. Oviedo is board-certified and fellowship-trained in metabolic and bariatric surgery, robotic advanced gastrointestinal and general surgery, and flexible endoscopic surgery. His clinical expertise includes robotic primary and revisional metabolic and bariatric surgery, robotic general surgery, robotic complex abdominal wall reconstruction, robotic anti-reflux/foregut surgery, flexible endoscopic surgery, and interventional bariatric endoscopy.
Dr. Oviedo graduated with his medical degree in 2007 from The University of Texas at San Antonio, where he then went on to complete a general surgery residency at Houston Methodist Hospital. After graduating from residency in 2013, Dr. Oviedo moved to Tallahassee, Florida, and joined Florida State University College of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery. During this time, he worked as a minimally invasive general and bariatric surgeon and developed his skills as a robotic surgeon. Dr. Oviedo then decided to pursue an advanced fellowship in minimally invasive gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery at Baptist Hospital of Miami. After completing his advanced fellowship in 2018, he served as a metabolic and bariatric surgeon in Winchester, Virginia, where he built a successful robotic bariatric and complex abdominal wall reconstruction program. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Oviedo is certified to perform interventional bariatric endoscopy, and is also certified in FUSE, FES, and FLS. He serves on multiple committees at ACS, ASMBS, and SAGES and has authored numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters.
Dr. Oviedo is excited to continue serving patients as a robotic bariatric and general surgeon with the Houston Methodist Department of Surgery, and will continue his service as teaching faculty with the Houston Methodist Hospital General Surgery Residency Program.

"Doctor is extremely dismissive he was supposed to fix a blockage and instead created a surgical stricture which then caused severe bile reflux(2-5 liters a day) that wasn't there beforehand. His nurse practioner would not see me in the hospital while he was out of town and his medical assistant would not return my calls. He will not take accountablity and skipped multiple rounds on me.
