OVERVIEW
Neurologist Rene Colorado, MD, PhD, medical director for the Stroke Center at Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, joined the hospital’s medical staff in April 2017. He is also affiliated as adjunct faculty with the Department of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.
He earned his medical degree and a doctorate of philosophy in biomedical sciences at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. He completed a Neurology residency at the Harvard Neurology Residency Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Colorado furthered his medical training with a fellowship in Vascular Neurology (Stroke) at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Colorado is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. He enjoys teaching the next generation of medical professionals and is active in teaching medical residents and students and …trainees of allied health careers. He is also an active researcher with multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. His greatest joy comes from treating patients and his approach to patient care is centered on effective doctor-patient communication. Dr. Colorado is fluent in English and Spanish. He and his family reside in Salinas and enjoy spending time outdoors together hiking, playing soccer, kitesurfing, sailing and traveling to new places.
