Dr. Hauty was born in Rochester, NY and raised in Texas, Oklahoma and Delaware. He attended the University of Virginia for his undergraduate studies. After deciding to pursue a medical career, he completed his pre-med requirements at the University of Texas-Austin and medical school at Southwestern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center-Dallas.
Fulfilling a lifelong dream of living in the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Hauty completed his internship and residency in surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland.
Seeking a lifestyle change, Dr. Hauty and his wife relocated to the Hood River area, where he joined Providence. This change has allowed him time to participate in short term international medical missions, most recently with Doctors Without Borders in Burundi, Africa. Other medical pursuits include wilderness and event medicine as well as bodywork and acupuncture.
