" In my opinion always get a second opinion & always get imaging no matter what!!! I went to Dr. Castellano to rule out a hernia, when he examined me, he said you have a hernia, he said it was small and not to wait too long to do surgery or it could get strangulated. I really wasn’t prepared to hear that & asked him to do imaging he said no you don’t need it, It’s a waste of money & I can feel it. I did schedule a surgery which I later cancelled, When I left my mom asked me if I told him I had a bilateral hernia as an infant & of course I forgot all about it. I was able to reach him & had a bunch of questions & wanted to make him aware of what happened when I was a baby & asked again – shouldn’t I do imaging, again he adamantly said no I already told you it’s a waste of time I can feel it, he was going into the operating room & directed me to his PA for further inquiries. I luckily decided to go for a second opinion – more so based on Dr. Castellano only does open surgery ...
& I wanted to inquire about laparoscopic / robotic – well I went to see another surgeon who was highly recommended to me & he examined me not once – but twice & said do not do surgery – you will be sorry – you do not have a hernia & he said if I ever did never do open surgery in an area I already had it in years ago , based on I could have had nerve & tissue damage & he thought the radiation from a cat scan was a lot – but he offered it & I decided to do it anyway. Went back to my second opinion & he examined me a third time & said you do not have a hernia – do not do surgery- you will be sorry. I than did an MRI with & without contrast to make sure & It turns out I do not have a hernia & the left pelvic pain I have is coming from something else entirely. My primary Dr also examined me & said my pain is not a hernia! I was told by a surgeon & my primary, plus other professionals - not to do the surgery. Also, when I asked Dr Castellano/s office for my records, he put down that I have a medium to large hernia, which is not what he told me during my examination, perhaps that is how the initial surgery was even approved by my insurance. He also waived my pre op & when I asked why, he said because you are healthy & I said how do you know I’m healthy, I told him I haven’t had a EKG in years. Dr Castellanos office later sent me a message stating they got my doctors notes & the preop is still not needed, when I asked my primary Doctor after the fact. he had no clue to any of it & always recommends a preop prior to a surgery. My advice & opinion is always go for a second opinion & third opinion if you feel you need it & always do imaging no matter what. "

Data Transparency and Trust: Understanding WebMD Doctor Listings and Reviews

We know that finding the right doctor or provider is important to your health. That’s why we want to ensure you have confidence in the provider profiles and listings you see on WebMD Care. Our provider data is sourced from the physicians themselves as well as publicly available databases. Any doctor or provider who claims their profile by verifying themselves can update their information and provide additional data on their specialties, education, accepted insurances, conditions they treat, and procedures they perform.

All the physician and provider reviews on WebMD Care are provided by users just like you. Knowing these reviews provide insight into how other patients feel about a doctor, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Providers are not able to remove or modify reviews on their own. Reviews can only be removed after an internal review by our customer service team.

We value your input and encourage you to reach out to our support team if you encounter any issues.
