OVERVIEW
I was born in Northern California and went to college at UC Berkeley for eight years and received my undergraduate degree and Ph.D. in mathematics. During graduate school I decided that instead of teaching mathematics for the rest of my life, I would rather join a profession in which I could truly make a difference in people's lives. I finished my premed courses at Berkeley while I worked on my Ph.D., and was accepted to medical school from there. I went to UCSD medical school and have remained in Southern California since then. I did a residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, and then was in private practice for about 10 years in Vista. I joined Kaiser Permanente's Internal Medicine Department in Escondido in 1991, and have been here ever since.
