Dr. Melissa Frey is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the division of gynecologic oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Frey graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and earned her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College, graduating with honors in research. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Weill Cornell Medicine / NewYork-Presbyterian. She subsequently completed her fellowship in gynecologic oncology at New York University Langone Medical Center.Dr. Frey specializes in all aspects of gynecologic oncology including surgical management and chemotherapy for cancers of the uterus, ovary, cervix, vulva and vagina. She is extensively trained in minimally invasive surgical approaches using laparoscopic and robotic platforms for gynecologic cancer and complex benign gynecologic conditions.Dr. Frey has received numerous awards for her clinical excellence, surgical expertise and medical research, including the Siegel Family Faculty Development Prize, Sarnoff Research Foundation Fellowship, Alan von Kreuter Cancer Research Prize, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons Outstanding Laparoendoscopic Resident Surgeon Award, Special Resident in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Award, Jerome E. Seiler Memorial Superior Skill in Advanced Gynecologic Surgery Award and multiple teaching awards.Dr. Frey’s research focuses on genetics and genomics in gynecologic cancer. She has presented her research at national and international meetings and has more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Much of her research has focused on genetic syndromes that predispose to gynecologic cancer including hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (BRCA1/BRCA2) and Lynch syndrome.Dr. Frey is also committed to providing treatment to underserved populations internationally. She has traveled to Central America, South America and Africa to provide basic health care and surgical management for gynecologic disease.
