OVERVIEW
Dr. Sanz leads Urogynecology & Pelvic Surgery at Virginia Hospital Center, focusing on pelvic floor disorders such as urinary incontinence and prolapse (bulging) of the vagina, bladder and/or uterus. This program features the latest urodynamic technology, including advanced wide-angle flexible cystourethroscopes (which allow the use of a video camera to monitor function of the urethra) and cutting-edge Urolab System V Janus computer equipment and software to help analyze abnormalities in bladder function. Dr. Sanz's particular interest in the subspecialty of Urogynecology, he also will see patients for standard gynecological exams and treatment. Dr. Sanz is a Professor, Scholar Track, in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he also formerly served as Vice Chairman and Chief of the Division of Gynecology and Obstetrics. , he was Director of Georgetown's Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstruction Clinic. A member of AOA (Medical Honor Society), Dr. Sanz's prior academic appointments and professional experience also include: Associate Professor in Pediatrics (Georgetown University Hospital) and Director, Colposcopy Clinic and Gynecologic Cancer Detection Center (D.C. General Hospital, Georgetown University Service). Among the professional organizations to which Dr. Sanz belongs are: American Association of Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery, Gynecological Urology Society, and American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Fellow). Dr. Sanz has edited four books on surgery (Gynecologic Surgery is in its second edition) and authored some 30 articles in surgical journals. He is also technical consultant for Ob-Gyn News, and has conducted National Cancer Institute-sponsored research into the human papillomavirus. A noted lecturer, Dr. Sanz has received a number of awards for his expertise and service, including being named one of "The Best Doctors for Women Coast to Coast" (Ladies Home Journal) and a Washingtonian magazine Top Doctor. He has also been profiled in Marquis Who's Who in America and Whos Who in the World. Dr. Sanz is a member of the Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group - Urogynecology & Pelvic Surgery.
