"Dr. Lyon was very reassuring when it came to one of my conditions that was of acute concern at the time. She always refilled my medications promptly. And she was generally patient and congenial. "I feel kinda mean leaving a less-than-quintuply-stellar review for a resident (yes, she did treat me while in residency) but she's soon going to be out in the wild so I'll give my impressions.
It often comes down to whether a psychiatrist is a good match for you. I think she is likelier to be a good fit for:
1. CHILDREN !!
2. Genteel southerners
3. Conventional people having a bout of depression
3b. Mothers w/postpartum depression
She's not the deepest lake in the state, which is going to hinder her interactions with patients who are outside-the-box -- at least until she matures a bit.
I don't want to detail everything I experienced in her care but here are a few things I thought were weird:
Zero interest in adjusting or changing my medications despite problematic symptoms.
Visibly startled when I used a profane but ubiquitous word.
Gave me "the look" of cattiness twice about what I was wearing (true, I could be misinterpreting this, but I've been the recipient of "the look" ...before and have wielded it myself in my snotty phase of life...in fact, I would have used it with someone like her!)
Mentioned in two appointments that my appetite was lower than usual, which was met dismissively. This is just conjecture, but I suspect if my BMI had been 18 instead of 25-26 (don't remember exactly) some concern might have registered. In any case, I was saying something was amiss and listening didn't happen.
The most genuine sympathy Dr. Lyon expressed towards me was over a psychiatric situation I was in when I was a minor.
Even before that I really wanted to ask her if she ultimately wants to work with children. That's her total vibe! "Read more
