"Been living with joint pain since childhood (elementary school age) due to arthritis and an immunocompromised condition.practically every joint effected. Have had bilateral hip replacements and recent knee replacement. Came to her due increased pain in foot after the recent knee replacement . Although she claimed to have reviewed my extensive history she didn't appear to emphasize with my pain, suggesting remedies that someone with my extensive history has and is performing (PT, creams, exercise). When I suggested a scooter (keep in mind I am older now in my 50s) that I could use to relieve some pain off my joints, she said I'd become totally reliant on it and be inactive.How does she know that??? I am quite familiar with my condition and have always exercised regularly and eaten a healthy diet. People who knows me admire my health consciousness particularly in light of my health challenges. I not only apply healthful living practices but am knowledgeable about health topics as my educational background includes health education and promotion and kinesiology. I obviously know sedentary lifestyle isn't healthy so that is not the basis for a scooter. Part of self care is management of pain and a scooter would definitely assist with that. She verbally acknowledged my pain when I probed her, but it seems she really doesn't care if I live my life in pain based on her cavalier response and tone. I hate when physicians make blanket statements about a patients behavior without familiarizing themselves with their patients. It is actually a form of bias as they (in this case she) projecting assumptions on to another(me). She also failed to mention a regimen that I know would benefit me; prescription of opioids. But she probably would make another assumption; that I will become an addict ( even though I have tolerated opioids well for years before I was cut off due to opioid epidemic). l am praying I will find a physician who listens and doesn't paint me with a broad brush. "
