Bio
Dr. Herbst received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Georgetown University. To be an endodontist, Dr. Herbst trained three additional years in hospital dentistry and endodontics (root canal therapy).
On his own, he continued to reach for the highest level of his profession by passing a series of examinations to attain the status of Board Certified Specialist and Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics.
What is a Board Certified Specialist?
Board Certification is the highest level of achievement in Endodontics. Less than one-third of Endodontists are Board-Certified. A Board-Certified Endodontist has satisfied all requirements of the Board Certification process of the American Board of Endodontics.
What is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics?
A Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics status is awarded to qualified endodontists who have demonstrated diagnostic skill, clinical proficiency, and professional judgment of a level that …ensures the highest quality of care for patients. They have taken an examination administered by a panel of experts of their peers and have demonstrated an exemplary level of knowledge, understanding, and clinical expertise in Endodontics.
Three exams over several years are completed which include a written exam, case submissions and finally an oral examination conducted by the Directors of the American Board of Endodontics.

Dr. Herbst is the best endodontist I have been to (he is my fourth). I was referred to him by my dentist who I have been going to for the past 20 years and have total confidence in. I had gone to my dentist to have a cracked filling repaired and upon xray, he found an abscess. He called Dr. Herbst to see if he could see me for a consultation. I went to Dr. Herbst's office that afternoon as an emergency and he did the root canal right then. I had no pain, not even the next day. Dr. Herbst is a true find! He came highly recommended and after going to him, I can see why. I awoke on a Saturday morning with a lot of discomfort in my back molar. My regular dentist referred me to Dr. Herbst (he is a root canal specialist). Dr. Herbst was able to see me on emergency in his office (on a Saturday!). Karen, his office manager, made me feel at ease and Dr. Herbst has a very kind and gentle manner. As far as the root canal, it was a breeze! I mean I didn't feel any pain at all. It felt similar to getting a filling. To top it all off, Dr. Herbst asked me to call him and let him know how I was doing the next day (a Sunday!).
