"I'd been seeing Dr. Haydek for many years and he has been very good for most of that time. A couple of months ago, I had one of the worst Crohn's flares in over 20+ years. When I called GIA I was scheduled to see a NP, which was fine. After her exam, she referred me to a Colorectal Surgeon at UT Med Center. It took about five weeks to get in to see the doctor at UT. When I saw him, he almost immediately said that the rectal tissue was far too inflamed to consider any surgery. He gave me some oxycodone for the pain and referred me back to Dr. Haydek for treatment of the Crohn's Disease/Hemorrhoids. During this whole time, there was a LOT of pain with the hemorrhoids! I called twice to get some sort of pain medication. I can't take NSAIDS because of stomach issues. After the five Oxycodone pills the UT doctor had given me were gone, I put Voltaren (a NSAID pain relief gel that doesn't go through the stomach) on the end of a suppository and inserted it for some pain relief--it didn't help ...
much. I tried Tucks Pads with Witch Hazel, Hydrocortisone cream and any other pain relief I (or my Pharmacy) could think of. Again, I called GIA and told them about the acute pain. I was prescribed suppositories but nothing for the pain. By this time, it had been over two and a half months since seeing Dr. Haydek's NP and things were beginning to "heal" on their own. Anyway, Dr. Haydek did a Flex Sig to see what was going on. I told him that the flare was much better and that everything was just about over by the time I saw him for the follow up visit. Instead of the usual caring doctor I was used to, Dr. Haydek seemed like it was a bother to see me for an appointment that his office set up! He was unprofessional and basically told me that I was wasting his time. He said I'd seen the practice three times (all scheduled appointments) in six months and that wasn't how he ran his practice. When I asked about pain relief, he snapped at me that he doesn't do pain relief and acted like I was asking for a bunch of narcotics or something. I said that it would have been nice if someone had told me so I could see if my GP could help with anything. Everything went downhill from there. He said that I'd seen a Colorectal Surgeon at UT (that his office had referred me to over two months before) and he was discharging me to see a GI doctor at UT. There was no further discussion, I was summarily dismissed--no referral, no transferring to any other doctor at GIA, just gone. After a few weeks, I received a certified letter saying that he was sorry that I was unhappy and that he suggested I contact a doctor at UT. I did and found out that UT GI Dept. wasn't seeing new patients. I felt completely abandoned. I don't think he was the least bit sorry! I'd seen Dr. Haydek for years and went for every test, scope, etc. that he wanted, but the FIRST time I reached out for his help, I got a go to H*ll attitude and discharged. So much for being a caring and helpful doctor. I don't know what changed, but the "old" Dr. Haydek seemed to be gone and if I reached out for help or asked a question, I was discharged. He made it clear that wasn't how he ran his practice. I was very concerned about the Humera prescription, periodic tests, and things that go along with Crohn's. His Nurse, Jennifer, was very helpful and told me that I had several months left on the Humera. Thank goodness for Jennifer. I explained the whole ordeal to my GP and he made a referral to Dr. Edmonds in Knoxville. When I saw Dr. Edmunds--what a difference! He assured me that I didn't need to worry about any tests, scoping or anything else about my Crohn's. I don't know why Dr. Haydek was such an ass and acting like he was God or something, but I will never see him again and strongly advise anyone with a GI issue to go somewhere else. "

Data Transparency and Trust: Understanding WebMD Doctor Listings and Reviews

We know that finding the right doctor or provider is important to your health. That’s why we want to ensure you have confidence in the provider profiles and listings you see on WebMD Care. Our provider data is sourced from the physicians themselves as well as publicly available databases. Any doctor or provider who claims their profile by verifying themselves can update their information and provide additional data on their specialties, education, accepted insurances, conditions they treat, and procedures they perform.

All the physician and provider reviews on WebMD Care are provided by users just like you. Knowing these reviews provide insight into how other patients feel about a doctor, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Providers are not able to remove or modify reviews on their own. Reviews can only be removed after an internal review by our customer service team.

We value your input and encourage you to reach out to our support team if you encounter any issues.
