"I believe Dr. Myers saved my life. That's quite a statement, so let me explain. My PSA was 5.8, a little high, so my PCP referred me to Dr. Myers. She performed a digital prostate exam and sent me for an MRI, neither of which indicated cancer. At that point, I would have just figured my PSA was high for another reason, because high PSA values don't always indicate cancer. But Dr. Myers wanted to do a biopsy as well. It turned out that of the 12 samples from the biopsy, 6 came back cancerous and one was precancerous. A few weeks later, Dr. Myers performed the surgery to remove my prostate, and although I'm not out of the woods yet, the biopsies of surrounding tissues were favorable, so it's likely the cancer has all been removed. But if Dr. Myers had not pushed for the biopsy, it would have been at least another year, at my next annual physical, before this issue would have been looked at again, and by then, the cancer could very easily have spread. So it's not an exaggeration to say that ...
Dr. Myers probably saved my life. It's a scary thought to realize if she had been less careful or less thorough, the cancer would still be inside me, growing and multiplying. When Dr. Myers discussed the situation with me, she covered the diagnosis, treatment options, and side effects of the treatments clearly and factually. She didn't sugarcoat it, but she made sure I understood that we had options and there were ways to deal with all of it. I left the meeting a little shaken up from the fact that I had cancer, but feeling good that we had a plan. Nobody wants to have that kind of conversation, but Dr. Myers handled it very well. She steered me toward the treatment that she thought was best, which she should do, since she has the medical expertise, but I didn't feel pushed or that I didn't have a choice. Her office can sometimes be a little chaotic, messages can get lost, etc. And telephone calls sometimes get routed to a remote call center that is a nightmare. But I can accept a little chaos in exchange for what I believe is literally lifesaving care. I definitely recommend Dr. Myers. "
