"Went to Arthritic and Rheumatology Center because I wanted musculoskeletal ultrasound of my clavicle, to see it move over the first rib, and of the tear area of my splenius capitus and semispinalis capitus where it attaches to T1-t3. The doctor refused this service saying contradicting his own website. And by the way, I am a veterinarian, and NOT medically ignorant. He is a liar. He used the excuse that it was not a rheumatology issue, and he told me to go to the Mayo Clinic in FL. He said I needed a spine orthopedic surgeon to address the neck muscle tears.
I went to him because his website states, Dr. Patel has been trained extensively during his rheumatology fellowship in performing and interpreting musculoskeletal ultrasound study and has attended various continuing education courses and workshops in musculoskeletal ultrasound to improve on his knowledge and skills. But he refused to use those skills to help me with my two injuries.
He also said that MS ultrasound would not show ligaments ...but they should show up on MRI.
I went to him because his website states: Musculoskeletal Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive, non-radiating imaging modality that can be used to diagnose and identify different musculoskeletal disorders. Some of these disorders include muscle, tendon and joint abnormalities.
If ultrasound can see tendons, it can see ligaments since they are mostly the same tissue type. The difference is that tendons connect muscle to bone and ligaments connect bone to bone. Tendons and ligaments are BOTH mainly composed of type I collagen fibers surrounded by a mesh of loose connective tissue. So if MS ultrasound can see a tendon, it can see a ligament. So, either he is lying to me, saying it will not show a ligament, or he is lying on his website. HELLO. I am a veterinarian. I studied histology of tendons and ligaments. I am not a dumb ass uninformed patient. I knew that when I was there, but what do I say to someone who is flat out lying to my face?
His website also states, Ultrasound has many significant advantages over x-rays, MRI and CT scans. These include:
Ability to perform a dynamic or live study so that we can see the injured area move.
Ability to see inflammation.
Better resolution of soft tissue than MRI.
I need that live study to show how the deformity of my clavicle is affecting how it fits over my first rib since it is forced out of place, even if I try to hold it in the joint, when I move my shoulder back.
When I asked him about exactly what his website promises, he denied the ability to see inflammation or ligaments. He contradicted what his own website proclaims as the advantage of ultrasound in these situations.
He would not image my unstable clavicle, even though it is arthritic and his website says he can view the injured body part in motion. He flatly refused. I wanted to see what it is popping as it grinds and rocks over the first rib due to the bone deformity that occurred when it was, most likely, posteriorly subluxated for 3.5 months (since it caused brachial plexus issues which showed up on EMG and then disappeared when I manipulated my clavicle and it subluxated anterior and became very unstable). I feel ligaments/tendons popping. He even said it was tendon and ligament popping that I was hearing, although there is bone grinding, too because the clavicle rocks over the first rib. But he would not help me. He barely touched me and kept backing away toward the wall.
For my c7-t3 area, I want to see the inflammation and muscle/tendon damage that I feel. Since tendon connects muscle to bone, this is exactly what has been damaged in the connections of the splenius capitus and semispinalis capitus since it is their connection to my bones that have been lost or damaged. I feel this distinctly. His website says ultrasound will show this, but he refused, and denied what his website said ultrasound could see. He is either lying on his website or he lied to me because he just does not want to help me whe "Read more
