OVERVIEW

Dr. Wilentz was graduated from Columbia College with a B.A. and received his M.D. from NYU with the honor of election to Alpha Omega Alpha. His medicine residency was done at Harvard's Brigham and Women's Hospital as well as fellowships in hematology there and cardiology at Boston Medical Center. He researched the interactions of blood platelets with the angioplasty site, and did his Interventional Cardiology fellowship at Emory University Hospital with Dr. Andreas Gruentzig, the originator of coronary angioplasty. Dr. Wilentz has done specialized carotid and vascular training in France with Drs. Amor and Henry, publishing on the use of cerebral protection in carotid treatments. He has been an investigator in many international studies of carotid and peripheral vascular intervention as well as coronary trials. He was an original investigator in the TIMI-1 trial of clot busters in acute heart attack. In addition to this academic background, Dr. Wilentz maintains an active clinical practice of consulting cardiac and vascular care. He concentrates on a personalized approach to each patient including risk reduction, medical therapy and invasive and interventional work. The illness as well as the patient's strengths and weaknesses are taken into account, and an explanation is given at the first visit and in an ongoing way of how the disease occurs and why the treatments are proposed and how they may help.
