Dr. Hsiupei Chen , MD
OVERVIEW
Dr. Chen was born and raised in New Jersey. After earning her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Environmental Studies at Princeton University, she completed her medical school training at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Chen then moved to San Francisco where she did an internship in Internal Medicine as well as her residency in Anesthesiology at the University of California at San Francisco. She was also chosen to serve as Chief Resident during her final year. In 2003, Dr. Chen returned to North Carolina and completed a Fellowship in Pain Management at the Duke Pain and Palliative Care Clinic. She joined Carolina Pain and Spine in 2004.
During her tenure with CPS, Dr. Chen previously spent five years in the role of Practice Medical Director and has also been serving as the Medical Director of the Rex Pain Management Center for more than 10 years. She also serves as the regional representative of ProCare Pain’s Advisory Committee. Dr. Chen’s goal is to engage …and educate the patient so they can better understand their condition and be proactive in their own recovery. She aims to provide clear, safe, honest, compassionate care to patients using up-to-date information and techniques. When she is not at work, Dr. Chen cherishes spending time with her family, including her husband, son, and daughter. When their busy schedules permit, her family enjoys traveling and exploring new destinations.
Carolina Pain & Spine is the only pain specialty practice that all three major hospitals in Raleigh have approved for their inpatient and outpatient care. Our broad knowledge in spinal and non-spinal pain disorders and our excellent record with patient safety have given us the reputation as being the gentle, compassionate, and comprehensive clinic at which to seek your medical care.
When she's not at work, Dr. Chen enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children. She used to enjoy cooking and making cards prior to the birth of her children, but her time is now spent shuttling kids to swimming lessons, soccer practice, and birthday parties!
