"When I was 16, I visited Dr. Vandenberg for severe chronic depression. I was very much in crisis. He came into our meeting and told me that I looked terrible, that my clothes were disheveled, and asked, "How old are you? 16? You look 26." He told me to get my act together. He laughed at me. I didn't know at the time that I didn't deserve that kind of treatment. It really hurt my self esteem and confirmed my own negative self talk. Please, please do not send your children here."
