OVERVIEW
Dr. Dougherty is originally from the San Fernando Valley, and feels a great connection with the Sherman Oaks community where he has lived and worked for over 28 years. He enjoys being a part of all that the community has to offer, especially the beautiful, warm, California smiles that are shared throughout the valley. Dr. Dougherty looks forward to working with each of his patients, and enjoys helping his patients create one-of-a-kind treatment experiences.
Education and Continuing Education
Dr. Dougherty received his degree and certification in orthodontics from the University of Southern California. He began his career in orthodontics in Santa Monica, and wanting to be more involved in his community, moved his practice to Sherman Oaks.
Dr. Dougherty is involved in orthodontics at many levels. He currently teaches courses in surgical orthodontics and biomechanics at UCLA, he is on the Board of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics, and he is soon to become the president of the …American Association of Orthodontists Foundation (an organization that raises money to fund research in orthodontics and support orthodontic education). Dr. Dougherty has previously taught orthodontics at USC and is a regular speaker at various orthodontic events. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and a regular member of the Edward H. Angle Society, Southern California Component. All of these activities provide Dr. Dougherty with opportunities for continuing education, and allow him to offer his patients the most advanced, up-to-date treatments possible.
Outside of the office...
Dr. Dougherty and his wife, Pam, have been married for over 23 years and have one 18-year-old son named Ryan. When he’s away from the practice, Dr. Dougherty enjoys photography and working with computers. He is an avid walker and cyclist, and is a member of the Los Angeles Bicycle Coalition. He rides with the San Fernando Valley Bicycle club and the Los Angeles Wheelmen. Dr. Dougherty has even been known to commute to work on his bicycle!
