OVERVIEW
Dr. Guy El Helou is a clinical infectious disease physician with a special focus on infections in the transplant population.Dr. El Helou graduated from Saint Joseph University School of Medicine in Beirut, Lebanon with his medical degree and Masters in Basic Sciences. Following that, he completed an internal medicine residency at Hotel-Dieu de France University Hospital in Beirutand and began an infectious disease fellowship He completed his fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. During this time, he conducted research projects on vectored immunoprophylaxis through the salivary glands and developed clinical interest in infections in the immunocompromised host, which led him to pursue a subspecialty in transplant infectious diseases at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.Dr. El Helou is currently a clinical assistant professor with the University of Florida College of Medicine. Here, he takes care of patients who present with infectious complications mainly following solid organ transplantation. He has a special interest in cytomegalovirus, or CMV, fungal infections and nontuberculous mycobacteria.
