"This is for the purpose of sharing information—especially for those who are looking to make an informed decision regarding who to entrust with their care. I’ve been chronically ill for the past ten years. For most of this time, my medical needs have been taken care of by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Because of this, I’ve had all sorts of experiences with doctors—both good and bad. I wanted to establish care with a local General Practitioner, so that, if I needed more immediate help, I’d have somebody close by. This establishing care appointment with Dr. Mihailescu was by far the worst experience with a medical provider I’ve had during my decade-long journey. I’m going to quickly list the major red flags that I experienced, and, if you foresee any of these being a problem in a potential doctor-patient relationship, I would encourage you to go a different way. 1) I am 99% sure he did not read through my chart before my appointment. This point is especially driven home by the unsolicited ...
recommendations he made, all of which would’ve significantly impacted my preexisting conditions in a negative way. 2) Dr. Mihailescu’s bedside manner was impressively bad. Despite having prepared a condensed, considerate list of notes prior to seeing him, I didn’t get a chance to bring up any of those things I wanted to discuss. Before I could share my goal/reason for seeing him, he jumped into what amounted to a cruel, relentless speech. His listening skills leave much to be desired. He also did not ask me if it was alright before removing his mask. 3) He saw my weight on the computer within the first couple minutes and would not let go of it for the remainder of the appointment. I acknowledge that my weight is a problem, but this was not one of the reasons I was seeing him. I’ve be seeing the Weight Management team at Mayo, and that has proven very effective for me (I’ve now lost 40lbs since April and lose 1.5lbs consistently per week). Given that implementing Mayo’s guidance has been successful and I’m 100% happy with them, I’m not exactly sure why I’d be looking elsewhere for advice on this matter. Although I told him this right away, my weight remained the only topic of conversation the entire time. The bottom line was that I was not doing enough. In his own words, “there is plenty of room for improvement.” His recommendations included the following: I should get a gym membership, I should sign up for a marathon, and I should start a Keto diet. The first two would not be terribly good ideas considering my neurological conditions; furthermore, the Keto diet recommendation was laughably bad. When those words left the tip of his tongue, all I could think about is the lengthy amount of peer-reviewed, respected articles being published about how, at best, Keto diets are no more effective than a diet that is higher in carbohydrates. At worst, there is mounting evidence that this diet, due to the high saturated fat intake and lack of vegetables/fruits, can be harmful to your long-term health. 4) Finally, for those out there who struggle with mental illness, you might want to find a different provider. Self-excoriation disorder is listed in my chart, and, when he got to that diagnosis, he didn’t understand what it meant. Perhaps he was genuinely trying to educate himself, but the way he handled learning more seemed to lack empathy (i.e., pressing me for examples). Big picture: If my experience is not an isolated incident, Dr. Milhailescu, who has a position of authority, could be disseminating dangerous, misinformed rhetoric to young and/or vulnerable patients. This is especially concerning given the prevalence of eating disorders, body dysmorphia, self-esteem issues, etc. Smaller Picture: I would take any recommendation that comes out of this provider’s mouth with a grain of salt. In conclusion, it doesn’t matter how talented or intelligent a doctor is; if you lack the social skills needed to interact with a patient, perhaps you shouldn’t be g "

Data Transparency and Trust: Understanding WebMD Doctor Listings and Reviews

We know that finding the right doctor or provider is important to your health. That’s why we want to ensure you have confidence in the provider profiles and listings you see on WebMD Care. Our provider data is sourced from the physicians themselves as well as publicly available databases. Any doctor or provider who claims their profile by verifying themselves can update their information and provide additional data on their specialties, education, accepted insurances, conditions they treat, and procedures they perform.

All the physician and provider reviews on WebMD Care are provided by users just like you. Knowing these reviews provide insight into how other patients feel about a doctor, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Providers are not able to remove or modify reviews on their own. Reviews can only be removed after an internal review by our customer service team.

We value your input and encourage you to reach out to our support team if you encounter any issues.
