Gene Wichmann, DMD
Broad Air Force Training Leads To Taking Over His Mother’s Practice
After graduating from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 1997, Dr. Wichmann spent five years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force with the 366th Medical Group in Mountain Home, Idaho from November 1997 until May 2002. His years in the armed services gave Dr. Wichmann hands-on experience in performing all types of dental procedures - often working with limited resources and heavy time constraints.
In May of 2002, Dr. Wichmann took over the dental practice of his mother, Dr. Ida Smith. She opened the practice in Plainville, Connecticut in 1978. Also in 2002, Dr. Wichmann served as Base Dental Surgeon for the Connecticut Air National Guard’s 103rd Medical Squadron. From 2005 to 2007, Dr. Wichmann served as Vice Commander of the Dental Unit of the 439th Aerospace Medical Squadron at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Massachusetts.
Dr. Wichmann is a member in good standing with the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Three or four times a year he updates his dental expertise through educational courses in areas that include oral surgery, oral pathology and restorative dentistry. This advanced training provides him with a continuing connection to dentistry’s newest treatments and procedures.
