A native of Colorado, Dr. Lopez obtained his undergraduate education at the University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo. He earned his doctor of medicine degree at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver. His residency and internship training were performed at the University of Arizona Hospital in Tucson. Most recently, Dr. Lopez practiced in his hometown of Pueblo and surrounding areas in Southern Colorado for four years before joining the medical staff at Colorado Plains Medical Center. Prior to this, Dr. Lopez opened his own surgical practice in 1985 in Sterling, Colorado.
In addition to his general surgery practice and trauma care duties, Dr. Lopez was instrumental with the development of the Northeast Colorado vascular surgery program and served as its director for several years. As the physician responsible for developing Sterling Regional Medical Center's trauma progra and serving as the Director of Trauma Care at Southern Colorado's St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center's Level II program, Dr. Lopez will also serve as the Surgical Director of CPMC's Level III Trauma program.
