OVERVIEW
I went into orthopedic surgery for a number of reasons. As the 100th football captain at Harvard and a two-time NCAA Baseball College World Series participant, I was exposed early on to some of the pioneers in the sports medicine field. Their enthusiasm, dedication and sense of satisfaction in repairing and returning injured athletes to their sports made a lasting impression on me. That was a big factor in my entering the world of orthopedics and sports medicine. Additionally, as more young people than ever became engaged in sports, fitness and outdoor activity, there became a clear-cut need to tend to the long-term effect of injured joints in the form of hip and knee replacements. My tenure as chief resident at New England Baptist Hospital and my fellowship at Brigham and Womens Hospital provided excellent training in both sports medicine and joint replacementthe two main focuses of my orthopedic practice.
