OVERVIEW
Dr. Buchanan is the Chief Medical Officer of the Erie Family Health Center and a practicing General Internist. His current work as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University focuses on the health and economic impact of housing homeless individuals, and on quality improvement in the primary care setting. Before joining Erie, Dr. Buchanan was the Section Head for Social Medicine at John Stroger Hospital of Cook County (formerly Cook County Hospital) for five years. He also previously served as the Medical Director for two homeless shelters from 2001 to 2008 and as an Advocacy Fellow with the Institute on Medicine. Dr. Buchanan completed a residency program in Primary Care Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco in 1999, after completing an undergraduate degree in Economics at MIT and a medical degree at the University of Chicago. He also completed a Master of Science in Clinical Research at Rush University in 2007.
