"Avoid if at all possible. He knows how to do surgery. That's about it. He removed a cancerous area and performed procedure I did not authorize. Allowed me to get a serious infection because he didn't want to listen to me when I told him I was in extreme pain.
A year or so after my surgery, I met someone who had a virtually identical experience with Mr. Shaw (I refuse to use the 'doctor' title with him). He doesn't trust his patients at all. If your doctor refers him, ask for a second referral."

"Was a pt for three years. Used to think he was compassionate and had integrity. If he can not figure out the health issue, he may become with drawn and think you are exaggerating. Don’t share if you have depression or anxiety, that was a huge mistake. I do believe he is an excellent surgeon. Can be very unfair and go from compassionate, to the opposite. He can tell a good story, but chart a very unkind one of you, if unable to help you. Then share that with other doctors around him making you look awful. I thought the world of him until it was too late. Most will do great with him. Just don’t share you have depression. It ruined my care and now will struggle to trust anyone in health care. If some one acts so kind that’s great. All will be fine if your a straight forward case. Good luck in the health care world. I learned my lesson and will never trust doctors in the near future."
