Charles D. Van Tuyl, MD earned a Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1972 with primary concentration in Central Eurasian Studies. He taught at Bacone College, Muskogee, Oklahoma before changing from the teaching to the medical profession. He earned an M.D. from the University of Oklahoma in 1987. Dr. Van Tuyl has been a psychiatrist in McAlester, Oklahoma and Tulsa, Oklahoma and has also published several scholarly books including a Handbook of the Cherokee Verb and a translation of Athanasius Kirchers China Illustrata (1667) from the original Latin into English.
