The biggest influence in Dr. Schwalm's life has been her children. Learning to be a good mom has also made her a better doctor! Dr. Schwalm has learned patience and how to meet the needs of individual patients and their families – it's important to understand what decisions are best for them. She most enjoys what kids have to say, because you never know what that might be! During her fellowship, Dr. Schwalm did research on all types of lymphoma and also developed a special interest in neuroblastoma during that time. When she has free time, Dr. Schwalm enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. They all enjoying the outdoors, especially kayaking.I told my mom in fifth grade that I wanted to be a cancer doctor. I didn't know anyone with cancer, and we are not sure what influenced this decision, but that desire has never changed. I truly enjoy the work I do every single day.
