"I saw Dr. Schultz years ago, but I still recall the way she treated me. It was not terrible overtly, but I still remember how awful I felt leaving the office at GW She probably has no idea that she caused these feelings. Namely, I felt beyond judged for my queer sexual practices. I had just got on PrEP. I was in my early 20s on a honeymoon period of my sexual liberation coming from a conservative place. Dr. Schulz (whom I clocked as a married cis woman of likely heterosexual persuasion), made me feel as though my life choices are pathological. Me being gay, and having condomless sex was just unacceptable and I should wait to "do that stuff" "until [I] got married or in a relationship." I knew in my bones that she was being a cis straight nazi, but I walked away from her and the demeanor she gave me feeling such a familiar sense of shame. Now that I earned my Ph.D. specializing in queer health and I KNOW she needs to recognize the limits to her expertise and GET SOME MORE LGBT TRAINING. ...
