"For several years, I suffered with lower back pain and had shooting pains down my right leg, and in my pelvic area. In 2017, I had a discectomy and a laminectomy to relive pressure from a budging disc performed by an orthopedic surgeon. Sadly, it was not a successful surgery. For years, I went to a chiropractor, practiced yoga, got massages regularly, I stretched - I did everything I could think of to get relief in a healthy manner. This past summer I took my kids to the beach which is our tradition - we have been known to walk miles on the beach . Well, this trip I could barely make it to the water. I put on a happy face for the kids... it was their trip to have fun. But when we got back to Birmingham, I fell into a depression and watched my world get smaller and smaller. Finally, a friend of mine told me about his back pain and that he had surgery and his pain was gone - like, he was running again. His surgeon was Dr. Blake Pearson. Well, I called the very next day, made an appointment, new MRI was scheduled, etc. There is something so kind, and compassionate about Dr. Pearson... I finally felt seen, I felt heard. He knew what was wrong with my back and one month later he operated on my back - L3/L4 fusion. And today, (I feel like I am about to cry here) I am pain free.... when I left the hospital - day after surgery - I was pain free.... I am a 54 year old very lucky Mom of two amazing kids and I got my life back because of Dr. Blake Pearson. God bless Dr. Blake Pearson. "

"Dr. Pearson isn’t very old and I could tell when my husband had a laminectomy that he seemed to be a humble man for a neuro doctor. Most of them think they are a god. Then, I went to him and ended up with 3 surgeries. He’s very busy and it takes a minute to get an appointment. He took me in under the premise that a surgery I had prior was not fused properly and he would then proceed to correct what another doctor messed up. He went in posteriorly and put hardware and etc on the same level on my spine as the anterior hardware that was already in place. That wasn’t the point of the surgery but I still wasn’t aware yet that it was the wrong vertebrae. Next, I had two subsequent surgeries on my arm and hand. My arm is now deformed some and I didn’t receive any follow up either. One day, I went in to see him because I was and still am having trouble with my neck and left arm. I brought my medical records with me to discuss what the plan was before all of the surgeries and then what actually took place. I never once solicited pain meds either. As soon as he saw my medical records that was all she wrote. If knowledge is power then he doesn’t want you to be educated on his work or your body. People that’s why you need to read your radiology reports and get your medical records to advocate for yourself. He won’t mind suggesting that you’re fat. I wear a size 2. He was done when he saw me with my records. There was never an admission that just maybe he screwed up. I’d have way more respect for him had he just been honest. He actually told me I needed to do Pilates and just have a new normal and pretend like I’m not in pain. So people go to this man for surgery to get out of pain and if that doesn’t work then just pretend. I’m sorry but that’s not the world I’m living in and he clearly doesn’t get paid by pretending. What’s the point of doctors if we can just pretend and it will all go away. He then tried to suggest that I like imaging. Clearly he’s not had that many problems as anyone who has knows what a pain imaging and especially ct-myelograms are. Then, he was going to refer me to a pain clinic. Um no thanks. Why would I need pain meds and to see a pain management doctor if everything is perfect with my bones per Dr. Pearson? Also, I had mentioned a few seconds before that I don’t like pain meds. I could understand him trying to get rid of me if I were someone there trying to solicit medication. However, I just wanted to go over what we discussed prior to surgery and what happened when he did my surgery. The last time I saw him he tossed a report at me that he said he knew I’d been wanting. Hysterical considering I requested upon checkin at the same appointment for that report. Again, he should have followed up at the one year mark on each surgery and he didn’t. I was always kind and respectful to this man who is one year older than me. I just didn’t understand the Peter Pan type of solution in the end. To just go chug on over to mamby pamby land and pretend nothing is wrong. It’s one of the most asinine things I’ve heard from a doctor with a god complex. During me asking just questions about what my medical records said his NP came in to help a brother out so he could get out of the room as it was their lunch time. So basically I wear a size 2 and was told I needed to lose weight and then pretend there wasn’t a problem, go to Pilates, see a pain doctor, then file for disability. Also, I know how to read imaging and I doubt hardly he even looked at it as he was wrong. Again, I’m not sure why his job exists if we can pretend that we don’t hurt. Also, if you are a size two or up be prepared to be shamed (I’d hate to be his wife). Oh and his office door says: Candidates of Dr. Blake Pearson You may want to go ahead and do not pass go or take your get of jail free card and find someone else. -Jenny Marlow "
