I have had the pleasure to be a patient of Dr. Dunson since 1996. Most people dread going to the dentist, which is really a shame because the longer …they put it off the more damage they are doing to their teeth. Believe it or not, but I like going to the dentist. Dr. Dunson takes the time to educate his patients on the proper dental care, he encourages you to be part of the treatment and explains why it's important for you to do your part to keep your teeth and gums healthy. I like to call him a teaching dentist because while he's working on you, he's constantly sharing his knowledge and skills with his dental assistants. Encouraging them to see the total picture no juts the problem presented before them. I recently had major gum surgery performed by Dr. Dunson and even though it was intense and lasted 3 hours, I woke up the next day with little to no pain and went to work. It was nice to hear Dr. Dunson's message on my voice when he personally called later that evening to check on my post operative condition. His office staff are all kind, patient, and very knowledgeable.

How Does Implant Dentistry Work?
When you decide to restore your smile with dental implants at Dunson Dental Design, you're choosing to replace more than just your missing tooth or teeth. The treatment actually involves replacing the root of a missing or seriously damaged tooth with a titanium fixture — the implant itself. After being surgically inserted into the jawbone, the implant is eventually used as a solid anchor for porcelain crowns or bridges, or even a full set of dentures. During surgery, sedation dentistry is used to allow the patient to sleep while surgery is performed in our state-of-the-art surgical suite.
In addition to the skill and expertise of your dentist, your own body's natural healing abilities play an important role in implant dentistry. After the titanium replacement roots have been implanted, there is a recovery period lasting between two and six months. During that time, the jawbone grows naturally around the dental implants, securing them firmly in the jaw. Once the implants have taken root, custom-crafted replacement teeth will be fixed to them. Through Dr. Dunson's expertise in implant dentistry, and careful planning and design, dental implants at our Midtown practice, near Downtown Atlanta, are made to align perfectly with the rest of your teeth.
Who Is Eligible for Implant Dentistry?
Implant dentistry utilizes your own capacity to heal; that's why at Dunson Dental Design, patients are carefully screened to ensure they meet all the requirements for surgery. We review your medical and dental history and conduct a thorough examination of your entire mouth. Once you are determined to be eligible for dental implants at our practice serving Midtown and Downtown Atlanta, Dr. Dunson and his team may need to create diagnostic records, which are used to develop the best strategy for your particular needs.
