OVERVIEW
I came to San Diego from New York in 1989 to do a cornea fellowship at UC San Diego and to join my wife, who was a U.S. Navy doctor. We loved San Diego so much we stayed. My wife and I both grew up in Brooklyn, but didn't meet until medical school. My career started as a civil engineer, but I felt I wanted to do more and applied to medical school. As an engineer, I have always enjoyed solving challenging problems, which led me to subspecialize in the cornea, which deals with the more complex problems of the front part of the eye. I perform many types of eye surgery, including corneal transplants, cataract surgery, surgery for growths on the eye, and surgery to repair eye injuries.
