"I took a day off to find out on the same day of my appointment that I will not be seen without a referral. I asked to speak with the office manager to see if this situation can be handled differently. The office manager, Felipe Cordero came out of his office, and I told him about this unfortunate situation. He was insensitive. To add insult to injury, he repeatedly stated, “It is the patient’s responsibility to get the referral.” I told him that I was not informed that I needed a referral, and it was my first time hearing that EmblemHealth requires a referral for a comprehensive eye exam. Mr. Cordero continued to say that the insurance company requires a referral. To conclude the conversation, I asked for an excuse letter and your contact information. After I left your office, I called EmblemHealth and sure enough I did not need a referral for a comprehensive eye exam.
