OVERVIEW
Dr. Rhorer has a zeal for international travel and cross-culture relations. His interest in world travel began at a young age when he was an exchange student in the Bundes Republik Deutschland. At the age of 17, he attended a German school and was one of the first Americans in the Potsdam area of East Germany since the end of World War II. At the age of 16, on the 9 November, 1989 Tony watched on television as the Berlin wall toppled amidst crowds of exuberant onlookers. Six months later he stood before that very wall with a hammer and chisel in his hand and etched away a piece of history. Since that experience, he has endeavored to see all corners of the earth and meet as many humans as possible in all walks of life.
As a resident orthopaedic surgeon at Duke University, Dr. Rhorer was the first Duke resident to perform a fellowship at the Center of Ilizarov in Kurgan, Russia. He lived in Siberia for two months working a the Russian Ilizarov Science Center for Traumatology and …Restorative Orthopaedics. It was there that he honed his skills in the methods of ring fixation as he observed and operated with the masters and developers of this complex technique.
As an experienced orthopaedic trauma surgeon and skilled orator, Dr. Rhorer is widely sought after for his presentations and didactic sessions around the world. He regularly lectures to audiences in Western Europe, North America, China, Australia and South Africa. Moreover, Dr. Tony Rhorer believes it is very important to learn from surgeons around the world as well. Global innovation means more than teaching around the world. . . it means learning around the world too. In so doing, Tony Rhorer has created a global network of surgeons and leaders who facilitate state of the art care no matter where in the world you are!
Dr. Rhorer not only lectures internationally, but he also works as a consultant surgeon in international sporting events such the 2013 Munich X-games. He was the first American consulting surgeon to international X-games events. In cooperation with Medicine in Motion, Dr. Rhorer oversaw the entire Munich X-games providing emergency trauma services along side German trauma surgeons and emergency personnel.
