"I canNOT recommend Masonboro Family Practice, specifically Andy Illobre, P.A. or their nurse practioner department for ObGyn exams. I came from California on a medication protocol, which Mr. Illobre refused to uphold as a primary care physician. (There were two meds he would not continue to prescribe, even though I had been taking them at extremely low doses concomitantly for many many years.) He injected my left thumb, which was arthritic, and the first injection helped a lot; I did get a lot of relief. So I decided to see Mr. Illobre for future visits solely for the purpose of thumb injections--and find another PCP for my medication. (I take 4 meds for lupus, fibromyalgia and ulcerative colitis, as well as menopausal hot flashes. These medications have been on my medical records for years and are the most effective combination of meds, after years of trial and error. My labs are perfect.) Subsequent injections of the left thumb by Mr. Illobre were not nearly as successful as the ...
result of first injection in providing pain relief. In fact, Mr. Illobre did not have the good sense and professional medical judgment to refuse to inject the thumb after the area had virtually collapsed from excessive steroid. (It seemed a crap shoot whether he was even injecting the joint space. Careful positioning is vital to avoid injection of the more proximal portion of the anatomic snuffbox because it contains the radial artery and superficial radial nerve.) In trying to achieve the results of that first injection, I spent numerous $45 co-pays, needlessly, and suffered ongoing thumb pain. Not only that, Mr. Illobre billed extraordinarily highly and made about $261.84 from Blue Cross Blue Shield per visit for those simple injections (including my co-pays). The last injection of about four actually caused my thumb to become worse, resulting in a CMC arthroplasty surgery 3 mos. later that cost me, thus far, $2,000 out of pocket. I asked Mr. Illobre to waive that last copay of $45 under those circumstances, and he refused. (I suppose the $216.31 he had already received from my insurance for that injection was not enough for his pocketbook.) Additionally, after further research, I noticed that Mr. Illobre had billed for medications that were not on the recommended CMC injection list, such as triamcinolone acetonide and dexamethasone. He also billed highly for aspiration: a whopping $175!! Excessive. According to my research, it should have just been prednisone or methylprednisolone and lidocaine. No aspiration. I had an another visit at one point with another physician at the practice for hemorrhoids. He spent over half an hour in the exam room with me, repeating himself over and over and over again. The ObGyn visit that I had at Masonboro Family Practice was less than complete and professional, compared with pap smears I've had in the past. The NP did not "feel around" inside sufficiently or do an anal exam. (She did not even address my cervical cyst that former OBGYNs had been monitoring.) If you are looking for a primary care physician, I would look elsewhere. "

Data Transparency and Trust: Understanding WebMD Doctor Listings and Reviews

We know that finding the right doctor or provider is important to your health. That’s why we want to ensure you have confidence in the provider profiles and listings you see on WebMD Care. Our provider data is sourced from the physicians themselves as well as publicly available databases. Any doctor or provider who claims their profile by verifying themselves can update their information and provide additional data on their specialties, education, accepted insurances, conditions they treat, and procedures they perform.

All the physician and provider reviews on WebMD Care are provided by users just like you. Knowing these reviews provide insight into how other patients feel about a doctor, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Providers are not able to remove or modify reviews on their own. Reviews can only be removed after an internal review by our customer service team.

We value your input and encourage you to reach out to our support team if you encounter any issues.
