Amnon Schlegel, MD is a Board certified Adult Endocrinologist and specializes in disorders of hormones and metabolism at the Diabetes and Endocrine Treatment Specialists (DETS) in Sandy, UT.

Dr. Schlegel sees patients with all general endocrine and metabolic disorders. His focus is on disorders of lipid metabolism, endocrine hypertension, type 2 diabetes and obesity.

His is one of the key clinical lipid experts in Utah and in the Western United States. To his new patients, you can count on Dr. Schlegel to listen carefully. Your goals, hopes, fears, and worries will always come first in the march toward your improved health. Dr. Schlegel supports the DETS mission to focus on wellness, not illness.

Background and Education

Dr. Schlegel started at Diabetes and Endocrine Treatment Specialists in 2022 and brings twenty years of experience to this position.

He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a flagship hospital of Harvard Medical School.

He completed Endocrinology sub-specialty fellowship at the University of California San Francisco, and remained on the faculty for three years after graduation.

Dr. Schlegel was a tenured associate professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine, and a staff physician at the Salt Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center for over a decade before joining DETS. Dr. Schlegel is a member of the American Medical Association.

He is also a member of the North American Skull Base Society, recognized for his expertise in treating disorders of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland such as tumors, and syndromes of pituitary hormone excess and pituitary hormone deficiency.

He is a Family Heart Foundation-recognized treatment specialist for familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and elevated Lipoprotein(a), also known as Lp(a), two common, but inadequately identified and treated hereditary disorders of cholesterol metabolism that causes early atherosclerotic heart disease.
