"It was awful. He had me in tears. He looked at what the other dr stated was a problem and would listen to me at all. I am a nurse and have been a patient advocate with my patients and my family in the past. I felt as though I needed an advocate for that appointment. My PCP is now sending me to a neurologist at QMG. "

"Save yourself some time and extra stress by canceling your appointment and finding any other neurologist. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis by an MS specialist over a decade ago. Due to insurance changes, I had to switch to Dr. Jouan. What a disaster! First, he wanted to argue my diagnosis going as far as saying the specialist and Mayos Clinic was wrong. However, he was also clueless as to what he thought my correct diagnosis was. Second, I never got to finish a sentence or answer a question without being interrupted. He would basically answer his own questions for me and if I disagreed with the answer he would just keeping repeating the answer he wanted me to give and would speak over me. For example, he asked if I had urinary problems. I said yes and that I had had surgery for it at Mayos. He interrupted me at least four times and kept repeating "No, its just because you have children." Then he charted that he did a lot of assessments that he never did. My skin for example was ...
covered in hives and yet he put I had no rash. I was being seen for followup after passing out. Yet he wrote that I denied any loss of consciousness. He also wrote that my leg weakness was somatic, even though he never tested the strength in any of my extremities. When the appointment was over, he wrote three orders. All 3 orders were messed up and on a medication, I called for clarification and the nurse told me a whole different thing than the doctor. He couldn't even get a MRI approved, though they have always been approved in the past. He didn't appeal insurances decision, instead his nurse just called said it wasn't necessary anymore (though nothing had changed). The third order was sent to the wrong office, five weeks and multiple phone calls later and I am still waiting. I would highly recommend finding a different doctor. Jouan is rude, disrespectful, lazy, falsifies records, and makes no effort to do what is in the best interest of the patient. There is lack of communication between he and his nurse which often results in patients getting two very different answers. "
