""Doctor" Freeman should absolutely lose his medical license for malpractice. He is destroying people's lives, and what's worse, those that are already vulnerable. He caused my mother to lose the vast majority of her vision through bad and reckless surgeries that he imposed and botched. He is abrupt, rude, and just plain despicable. Whenever something went wrong, he literally disappeared. We finally got out and found another doctor, but the damage is done and she suffers the consequences of choosing him as a doctor every. single. day. It's heartbreaking. Other medical opinions were shocked with Dr. Freeman's abominable work and with the level of surgeries he conducted back to back. Please AVOID this shameful Doctor. I wish someone had warned us and spared us of the horrors we experienced."

"I recently had a very routine eye surgery with Dr. William Freeman at Shiley Eye Institute in La Jolla, CA. During surgery a staph infection invaded the interior of my eyeball causing massive damage that required additional surgery and ultimately resulted in blindness. Freeman admitted that I was infected during surgery but said that “it happens” and that I was just “the unlucky one.” Before surgery my vision was 20/20 in that eye. Post surgery my optic nerve is damaged beyond repair. There is no hope of regaining my sight. Freeman called me on the phone to deliver this news rather than telling me in person. He said there was nothing more he could do for me. I was left hanging regarding current medications and ongoing treatment. I had to find a new ?doctor to help me. A second and third opinion confirmed the prognosis that I will never regain sight in that eye. I have been maimed for life. It has greatly affected my daily activities and it is interfering with my ability to do ...
my professional job. The quality of care I received from Freeman was abysmal. His patient skills are deplorable, arrogant, abrupt. Freeman continually ran very late, rushed appointments, avoided discussion and questions. I saw his retina fellow much more than I saw him. More than once I had to insist that he attend my appointments. I have complained to Shiley Eye Institute about the treatment I received from Freeman and the staph infection I contracted in their surgery. I am awaiting the outcome of that complaint. "

"This doctor and professor is highly medically competent, but his doctor-patient interactions, in a diversity context, are flawed. His questions to me as a woman African-American patient included racial profiling about conditions that did not exist and a reluctance to listen in-depth to my own explanation for my condition. Furthermore, the record-keeping of my case with Shiley Eye Center was also highly flawed, with several different dossiers opened on me within two hours. The questions were racially bias, and age and gender insensitive. I was very uncomfortable during these medical multiple interrogations. Furthermore, the conditions of my treatment were not clearly and fully disclosed. This entire situation was extremely stressful and unpleasant in terms of doctor-patient interactions. I am astonished and dismayed by the social aspects of my treatment and lack of interpersonal sensitivity in the interactions at the Shiley Eye Center. I would expect much more from a highly acclaimed UCSD ...
medical professional who is also a colleague and a medical school professor. "
