OVERVIEW

I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and went to college in my hometown at Johns Hopkins University. I thought about going into journalism or linguistics, but finally decided that a career in medicine seemed like the right challenge. I then migrated south and spent the next nine years in New Orleans, where I went to medical school and did my neurology residency at Tulane University, met my future wife, learned to eat gumbo and beignets, and spent a year in practice with two experienced neurologists. My path then headed back east. We settled in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where I spent a number of years in private practice. Our son and daughter were born there. While I've always loved seeing patients and practicing neurology, I wasn't keen on managing an office and running what amounted to a small business. Eventually, I decided I wanted a change in setting and answered an ad in a Neurology journal for a job at Kaiser Permanente in Portland, Oregon. About my practice I am a general neurologist and enjoy seeing the full spectrum of neurology patients. I have some special interest in seizure disorders, Parkinson's Disease, dementia, and Multiple Sclerosis. As I take the history, I try to learn something about the patient as a person, and I try to involve the patient in medical decision making. A career in medicine constantly reminds me that there is tremendous variation among people in every imaginable way, and I think knowing a little about a patient's hopes and fears significantly improves care. I'm grateful that I now work in a setting where I am able to concentrate purely on medicine and leave the non-medicine side of things to others. How I thrive Our family moved to the Portland area in 2002. The kids are gone now doing their thing. My wife and I love the beauty and grandeur of the Northwest and enjoy day hiking, sometimes in the Gorge or on the coast. A couple of years ago we did the Forest Park All Trails challenge and hiked all 70 or so miles of trails over a period of a few months.

Data Transparency and Trust: Understanding WebMD Doctor Listings and Reviews

We know that finding the right doctor or provider is important to your health. That’s why we want to ensure you have confidence in the provider profiles and listings you see on WebMD Care. Our provider data is sourced from the physicians themselves as well as publicly available databases. Any doctor or provider who claims their profile by verifying themselves can update their information and provide additional data on their specialties, education, accepted insurances, conditions they treat, and procedures they perform.

All the physician and provider reviews on WebMD Care are provided by users just like you. Knowing these reviews provide insight into how other patients feel about a doctor, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Providers are not able to remove or modify reviews on their own. Reviews can only be removed after an internal review by our customer service team.

We value your input and encourage you to reach out to our support team if you encounter any issues.
