"After an incredibly long wait (an hour past my appointment), I had a useless appointment. Despite explaining my extended medical history and numerous past providers and treatments, I wasn't offered any new insights, simply prescribed another medication to try. I specifically brought up the fact that I have various motor tics, asking if that could be related to my migraines as they're both neurological conditions. The suggestion was taken into account briefly before being completely dismissed. I was then given a prescription for Depakote. When I was informed about the birth defects associated with it, he said "We don't like to prescribe this to 'young ladies' because it's bad for fetuses." He didn't bother to ask if I was sexually active, if I was planning to get pregnant, if I had a birth control plan, or even just simply explain that there were birth defects associated with this medication. He assumed this would be an issue because I have a uterus. I didn't know what to say other ...
than the fact that I am on a birth control which was in the medication list we had just gone over, so obviously I was not planning to get pregnant. I was also not informed until I received my prescription for Depakote that new or increased tics was a side effect. I experienced this even more so when attempting to come off this medication. When I explained these side effects to a different healthcare provider I was told that Depakote was known to cause new tics that are only improved by taking increased dosages of the medication. My tics have greatly improved after the initial withdrawl period, but they are still worse then before I started Depakote. They're both more frequent and I also have new tics that didn't develop until starting Depakote, including vocal tics which were entirely new. Vocal tics -in addition to the motor tics I've always had- can be the difference between a Turret's diagnosis. And this could have been entirely avoided. Not only was I prescribed an entirely useless medication, but my concerns were dismissed and not at all considered. And now I have a worsened tic condition because of it. "

"Dr. McDaris was very thorough at my establishing visit and listened to everything I had to say. I felt he took my opinions and preferences into account when developing a treatment plan for my migraines. I also found him quite personable and appreciated his humor. I would certainly recommend him. "

"Dr. Mcdaris and his staff are competent, respectful of their patients, and responsive to patient needs as they arise. Because there are so many types of migraines and causes for them, it took some trial and error to find the best combination of meds at the lowest possible dose to prevent my daily migraines, but Dr. Mcdaris did find the solution and has definitely changed my life for the better! I thank God for Dr. Mcdaris and his caring staff. "

"The doctor was somewhat condescending and less than concerned about my condition. The aid that came in beforehand had a great bedside manner and was very attentive. Doctor McDaris was the opposite and didn't seem to take into account what my previous neurologists had looked in to and what I had tried. Same old same old. Shove some pills at you and out the door. There's no attempt to understand why you're having migraines, just throw meds at you. He prescribed a preventative. I said I was willing to try it but under the condition that it does not have depression as a side effect. He prescribed Topomax. Which has severe birth defect warnings, can increase depression, cause suicidal thoughts or actions, memory and thought problems. So thanks. But no thanks."

Data Transparency and Trust: Understanding WebMD Doctor Listings and Reviews

We know that finding the right doctor or provider is important to your health. That’s why we want to ensure you have confidence in the provider profiles and listings you see on WebMD Care. Our provider data is sourced from the physicians themselves as well as publicly available databases. Any doctor or provider who claims their profile by verifying themselves can update their information and provide additional data on their specialties, education, accepted insurances, conditions they treat, and procedures they perform.

All the physician and provider reviews on WebMD Care are provided by users just like you. Knowing these reviews provide insight into how other patients feel about a doctor, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Providers are not able to remove or modify reviews on their own. Reviews can only be removed after an internal review by our customer service team.

We value your input and encourage you to reach out to our support team if you encounter any issues.
