Dr. Craig Mercer Boulris, MD

Orthopedic Surgery

OVERVIEW

About Me Thanks for looking at my home page. This page is intended to introduce myself and my staff to you, and to help you better navigate through the Orthopedic Department and the Kaiser Permanente system. Links to Internet health care resources are also available here. My professional areas of interest include sports medicine (arthroscopy of the shoulder, knee, elbow, and ankle) as well as shoulder and knee reconstructive and replacement surgery. I also perform hip replacement surgery and general hand and trauma surgery. I see patients at both our Pleasanton and Walnut Creek Medical Offices and perform surgeries in Martinez, Pleasanton, and Walnut Creek surgery sites. My "right hand woman" is Clarissa Reyes, my Medical Assistant. She handles the bulk of my messages from both Pleasanton and Walnut Creek Medical Offices. Clarissa was born in San Francisco and has lived in the East Bay for more than 11 years. She is the sharpest medical assistant with whom I have had the pleasure of working. She has worked with me for more than five years. I grew up in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts, where in high school I enjoyed playing football, basketball, and baseball. I attended Harvard College, where my main interests were baseball and majoring in biology. For the next nine years, I trained to become an orthopedic surgeon in New York City at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. After residency, I moved to the West Coast to complete a fellowship in sport medicine and knee and shoulder reconstruction at the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. After a year in private practice, I decided to join Kaiser Permanente. This choice was based on my perceptions of the changing landscape in medicine. Kaiser Permanente, with its integrated care, seemed to be in an optimal position to respond to the increasing pressures faced by all health care systems. Since I joined in 1998, Kaiser Permanente has continued to improve and is now recognized as a quality leader in California. With current leadership focus on quality and preventive care, I believe Kaiser Permanente's programs will continue to improve and become a model for health care delivery in the United States. In my role as Associate Chief of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, I am working to ensure that our department is one where patients feel they consistently receive excellent service. When not in the hospital, I usually take advantage the wonderful Northern California climate. I play in a men's baseball league, enjoy hiking and mountain biking on Mount Diablo and Mount Tamalpais, and look forward to snow boarding in Tahoe every winter and white water rafting the American River every summer. When not involved in these activities, a favorite pastime is gardening and landscaping. Eastern medicine and preventive care are personal interests. I believe in the subtle daily effects and profound lifelong effects of proper diet, physical exercise, stretching, breathing exercises, and positive internal dialogue. I have training in acupressure techniques and, if you desire, am happy to integrate these into your orthopedic care. "Dr. Bulris performed left rotator cuff surgery on me last year and provided excellent pre-op and post-op care. I am pleased with the results of this surgery and have committed to doing the same with right rotator cuff this summer."

Data Transparency and Trust: Understanding WebMD Doctor Listings and Reviews

We know that finding the right doctor or provider is important to your health. That’s why we want to ensure you have confidence in the provider profiles and listings you see on WebMD Care. Our provider data is sourced from the physicians themselves as well as publicly available databases. Any doctor or provider who claims their profile by verifying themselves can update their information and provide additional data on their specialties, education, accepted insurances, conditions they treat, and procedures they perform.

All the physician and provider reviews on WebMD Care are provided by users just like you. Knowing these reviews provide insight into how other patients feel about a doctor, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews. Providers are not able to remove or modify reviews on their own. Reviews can only be removed after an internal review by our customer service team.

We value your input and encourage you to reach out to our support team if you encounter any issues.
